A World Premiere for the Patrouille des Glaciers
16th to 20th April 2008

GPS tracking of the Teams, Live on Internet!

Navigation using GPS is nowadays more and more common and this technology gave birth to a lot of new applications. Coupling the satellite information with communication-GSM capabilities allows following and broadcasting live sportive events on the Internet.

Enhanced Security

In such mountain applications, providing the 3D position of the teams is a major security improvement. The technology and concept can easily be adapted for hickers, guides as well as for rescue teams.

Who will be 'tracked' ?

During the Patrouille des Glaciers, 400 teams will be followed live with real time data analysis. GPS-GSM receivers will be distributed between the teams of the different categories including the Top-10 participants as well as VIP guests starting from Zermatt.

How ?

Every 3 minutes the 3D GPRS position of each team will be sent to the map server. This server will have the task to superposed the geographical information on top of the Swiss map as well as to compute the necessary statistical information. It will be possible not only to know the position of all teams at a precise given time, but also to follow the evolution of the classification in real-time, thanks to the known starting time of each team.

And once the competition is over?

Once the challenge is over, all the data will be ready for analysis ! Thanks to it a Team will be able to identify at which moment and place did one win or lose time against his/her competitors and will therefore be able to prepare optimally for the 2010 PDG Raid !

The organisation committee of the Patrouille des Glaciers is very enthusiastic about this world premiere event that will allow people from all over the world to follow the competition via Internet in front of their PC or simply on their PDA!
